Introduced in 1972, the earliest KUN rest was constructed entirely of metal, with hand-made parts. Over the next decade, this prototype pioneered the market, while its inventor - the Czech-born violin and bow maker, Joseph Kun - and his wife, Marina, worked side by side on improvements.
These were significant. The "new" rest sported a more streamlined design. Materials of the highest quality had been sought out to create a state-of-the-art product. They ensured maximum durability and today's basic lifetime guarantee, and that any parts that did eventually wear out could be replaced easily. The final product was truly revolutionary.
The KUN Original combined a unique shape with end members that swiveled. This made the shoulder rest flexible for positioning, while a patented locking device ensured that it could not swivel so far that it would hit the instrument. And the Original was designed to fit the shoulder exactly to provide a correct holding position. Of course, KUN shoulder rests had been designed with sound quality in mind. The aim was for minimal contact with the violin or viola, so that vibrations would not be absorbed..

When it was introduced in 1994, the KUN Collapsible became the shoulder rest of the future. The compact Collapsible features a modern design similar to that of the KUN Original, with one important addition: end members that fold down for easy carrying and storage. And a new size adjusting mechanism introduced on the Collapsible Mini in 1997 makes it the only contoured shoulder rest that fits four sizes of violin.

Introducing the KUN Bravo, a shoulder rest that's already turning heads. Bent hardwood laminates maintain KUN's elegant and instantly-recognizable shape, while providing strength and some flexibility. The result is an ergonomic shoulder rest that slides on easily and sits securely in place on your instrument. Polished brass ends incorporate KUN's patented locking device, so you can position your Bravo exactly where you need it. New sponge rubber provides extra grip, reflecting advanced polymer technology. The Bravo comes assembled and packaged in a velvet drawstring bag. It is available for full-size violin.
